Booklet "Over the Hills of Hastings"

This file contains a booklet titled "Over the Hills of Hastings" published in 1923 with the intent to bring attention to the advantages of Hastings County. It contains a brief history of the county, also featuring natural resources in the area, a description of the townships within the county and of Belleville and includes a map of Hasting County .

Peace River Valley / by Harry M. Moore

File contains three newspaper articles by Harry M. Moore which appeared in the December 12th and December 19th, 1959 and January 2nd, 1960 editions of the Ontario Intelligencer. The articles chronicle Moore's travels along the Alaska Highway and into the Peace River Valley as well as areas in Northern Alberta.

Also contains a printed invitation to the laying of the cornerstone of Madoc High School, July 2, 1934. Also present is a manuscript extract from the Ontario Provincial Board of Health concerning dams in the Madoc area in the 1870s.

Lower Trent Valley Conservation Authority

File contains a printed booklet entitled "Why Do We Need a Lower Trent Valley Conservation Authority" produced by the Trenton Branch No. 110 of the Canadian Legion which argued for the establishment of a local conservation authority. Also contains newspaper articles concerning proposals to establish the TVCA, and issues surrounding dams in the Tweed area proposed by the Moira River Conservation Authority.

“New Names at Least Can Hide the Truth” - article 1966

File contains a newspaper clipping from 1966 about changing the name of geographic features between Belleville and Trenton in order to help remove bigotry in Canada; these sites were given names considered offensive today and have “no place in the geographic nomenclature. The article discusses a letter signed by J. Keith Fraser, executive secretary, Canadian Permanent Committee on Geographic Names, Geographical Branch, Department of Mines and Technical Surveys, Ottawa.
