Joseph Alger Blackburn, owner of Stroud's Jewellery and Gift Shop on Front Street in Belleville, Ontario, was born on Huff's Island on December 23, 1903, the son of Albert Blackburn and Annie Luella Huff. His father operated Stroud's for its Montreal owner for many years. Joe Blackburn took over as manager in 1932 and later purchased the store. Stroud's was established in 1872 and sold tea, offering trading stamps that could be redeemed for fine china. Joe Blackburn married Elsie Mae Wheeler. He was an honorary deacon and active member of Victoria Avenue Baptist Church. He died on October 21, 1975.
