Parchment-covered paper book containing accounts of Robert Shann, flax dresser of Knaresborough, Yorkshire, England, from 1836 to 1838. The volume also contains the will of Robert Shann, in which he leaves his estate to be divided equally between his borther and sister, Christopher and Jane Shann. The executor was George Elwood, shoemaker and the will was dated 2 June 1827. The will was witnessed by William Jennings, John Turnbull and Rob Butterfield. There are also some botanical and biological notes, a poem, and sketches of buildings and boats.

Later additions relate to activities in the Belleville area by George Simpson, for customers such as Robert Sharp, Jonas A. Canniff, Robert Pitts and William Naylor between 1863 and 1864.

Notice encouraging emigrants to settle in Hastings County, signed by Thomas Campbell, president, and J. H. Samson, secretary, of the Emigrant Society of the county.

File contains a copy of the Petition of the Inhabitants of Tyendinaga (from the Archives of Canada, Ottawa) dated 24 May 1832, to purchase settled crown land.

File contains a copy of a poster dated 23 June 1835 from the Commissioner of Crown Lands Office, offering specific Lots of Crown Land to be sold at auction.

The file contains the original discharge paper for Private George Barlow from Captain Wellesly Richey's Independent Company of Militia. He served from 1 May 1839 to 30 April 1840. Dated 1 May 1840 and signed in Belleville.

1. Apprenticeship indentures signed by George Skinner Tickell, his mother, Eliza Talley Tickell and Edward Winter, cabinet maker, carpenter, joiner and builder of Tavistock, Devon, England
2. Letter of appreciation from George S. Tickell's Front Street store employees, with two prints of scenes of Devon printed by Rock & Co of London: Vixen Toor, Dartmoor and Fish House on the Dart near Totnes

File contains original petition to incorporate Mill Point into an "Incorporated Village" 17 May1871, signed by Edward Wilkes Rathbun and 100 residents of the village. There are also petitions of protest from residents north of the York Road [Highway 2] who did not want to be part of the village. File also includes a plan of the proposed boundaries Mill Point (Map M440-1446).

File contains a photocopied typescript brief history of the settlement of Gilmour in Tudor Township and the development of the lumbering industry in the area.

A photocopy of a poster created in 1886 proclaiming "Murray Canal Demonstration! The preliminary opening of the Murray Canal will be celebrated on Wednesday, Oct. 6th, '86 at Twelve O'Clock Point, near Trenton, by a grand Demonstration, at which Sir John A. MacDonald and Hon. Messrs. White, Foster & Bowell will be present."

Printed illustrated card with poem entitled 'The Union Jack'. The card was produced as a souvenir of the raising of the British flag on No. 3 School House, Octavia Street, Belleville on Tuesday 24 May 1892, Queen Victoria's 73rd birthday. "With Compliments of the 'Old Belleville Rifle Co.' (No. 1 Co., 49th Battalion, Hastings Rifles)."

File contains the obituary (7-February-1899) for Lt. Col. Reuben Young. Born 19-July-1805 in Carrying Place, oldest son of Lieut. Col. James Young, M.P. Lt. Col. Reuben Young married Nancy Briant in 1829, she predeceased him 10 years.
