Hobbs family Royal Flying Corps photograph collection

Album of photographs compiled by a member of the Hobbs family. Teddie Hobbs appears in one of the photographs and there is also a photograph of the grave of J. E. Hobbs. The majority of photographs are of the First World War Royal Flying Corps training camps in North America: Camps Borden and Mohawk in Ontario and Camp Taliaferro in Texas.

Photographs depicting aircraft and airmen of the Royal Flying Corps/Royal Air Force, principally taken in and around Camp Rathbun, the pilot training camp situated to the north of Deseronto, Ontario. The majority of individuals pictured are not identified, although the captions 'Jimmie Russell' and 'Cadet Mitchell' appear on two of the photographs.

Photographic copies of pages of an album of Royal Flying Corps/Royal Air Force photographs taken at Camp Mohawk near Deseronto, Ontario, and Benbrook in Texas. The collection also contains a photograph of Sikorsky S-40 'Southern Clipper' flying boat NC752V on display at an airfield, c.1935.

2 & 3) Two letters from E.G. Webb, postmaster of Elkland, Tioga County, Pennsylvania to Reuben Cronk, Chief of Police in Deseronto, re a fugitive staying in the town. 28 Jan and 21 Feb 1882
4) Nov 1882 letter to Reuben Cronk from J. N. Emerson complaining about boys interrupting rehearsals at the school in Deseronto

Lucky Strikes ashtray

Green ashtray awarded at the Lucky Strikes Lanes in Deseronto, Ontario, for a bowling score of "320 & Over in 5-Pins".

The Lucky Strikes Lanes were at 358 Main Street, where Deseronto Public Library was later located.

Colour photographs of the town’s two original “Heart of Walleye World” fish signs and the three signs which were painted in 2006 to replace the old ones. The plywood was donated by the Town of Deseronto and the work of cutting out the fish shapes was undertaken by Tom Usher. Diane Myers painted the signs and the fish scales were done by a man called Gerry [surname unknown] who appears in the last two photographs.

Scanned image of a certificate of first communion and confirmation for Virginia Houle (1874-1944), the donor's grandmother. She received her first communion in Deseronto, Ontario, in August 1885 [at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church] and was confirmed in Napanee, Ontario on November 3rd, 1887 [at St. Patrick's Catholic Church].

The certificate was printed by L. Turgis, 60 Rue Des Ecoles, Paris.
