Boer War Medal : presented to Major Franklin Lynn, 1901

File contains a newspaper article of March 31, 1960 concerning the presentation of a medal to the Hastings County Historical Society on behalf of Major G. Franklin Lynn, former Belleville resident, who served in the Canadian Contingent in the South African [Boer] War. The medal, of which Major Lynn was one of the recipients, was originally presented to Belleville members of the Contingent by the Belleville City Council in 1901.

McClure Township : historical survey

File contains a typescript historical survey with questions concerning the geography, settlement and and social and economic development of communities in Hastings County together with manuscript notes completed by D.K. Card in response to the survey of McClure Township. Also present is typescript and manuscript correspondence from and received by Gerry Boyce concerning the history of McClure Township for his book, Historic Hastings. Bessie M. Fleming may have contributed some of these materials.

Penal Systems : essay on proposed relocation of Kingston penitentiary to the Marmora Iron Works, 1837

File contains a photocopied, typescript essay entitled “ The Report of the Commissioners on the removal of the Penitentiary from Kingston to the Marmora Iron Works...” by Nancy M. Dushaw, Carleton University, 1972. The undergraduate essay examines a government proposal to relocate the prison to Marmora and the reasons for the rejection of the plan.

Moneymore Loyal Orange Lodge Centennial, 1957

File contains two newspaper articles concerning the Moneymore Loyal Orange Lodge Centennial celebration, July 4, 1957, and the death of former resident and LOL member, Dr. Harry Gordon Carleton. Also contains a manuscript note from Dr. Carleton regarding an upcoming trip to England in 1957, and a printed booklet concerning the Moneymore centennial, entitled “Our Hundredth Anniversary” / by the Carleton L.O.L. no. 838, Moneymore, Ontario.
