Archival history

Collection includes material collected by Clark Cunningham, a student of Manly MacDonald's, and later items added by Hollis Arnold, who worked with Cunningham on a possible book about MacDonald. When Cunningham died in 2001, Arnold continued to collect materials relating to MacDonald until his death in 2006. The collection was transferred to Charles Beale by Arnold's daughter, Rosemary Brander, in 2007 and Beale used it to write the book 'Manly Edward MacDonald (1889-1971): Interpreter of Old Ontario', published in 2010. The collection includes additional family materials donated by Barbara and Duncan MacDonald (Manly MacDonald's son).

Immediate source of acquisition or transfer

Donated by Charles Beale in April 2019.
