Biographical history
Samuel Manson Benson was born on 23 March 1801 in York, Ontario, Canada, the child of Ezekiel Benson and Ann Manson. He became a surveyor and was active in various townships of the Midland District of Ontario. He served in the militia during the rebellion of 1837-1838. Benson died in Belleville on 28 December 1876 of cancer, at the age of 75.

A certified reproduction of the "Plan of part of Lot # 1 in the First Concession of Thurlow, surveyed for Asa Yeomans.” The area includes; east of Sidney Street and south of Mill Street [now West Moira Street], being on the north half of Lot # 1 in the First Concession of Township of Thurlow. Surveyed by Samuel Manson Benson D. P. S. - November 30, 1846.
