Trenton Lodges

File contains clippings of local newspaper articles about local groups generally with Christian faith based backgrounds, that do charitable work to promote a sense of goodwill in their communities. Some of these institutions include; Trenton Masonic Temple, Boy Scouts, the Oddfellows, and others.

I.O.O.F. Stirling - 1916

File contains an original Order of Service for the 97th Anniversary of the I.O.O.F. Stirling Lodge No. 239 dated Sunday, May 7th, 1916; along with 3 newspaper articles from 1956-57 about subsequent anniversary celebrations and presentations of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.)

Stirling Centennial

File contains two newspaper clippings regarding the celebration of Stirling's Centennial in 1958. Includes background on the early settlement of Rawdon Township ca. 1807 and the founding of Stirling. Also present is a mimeographed undated circular letter issued by the Hastings Historical Society, showing the cost of memberships possibly in the 1960s.

Thomas Ritchie : sun dial, Parliament Hill

File contains a newspaper article by Thomas Ritchie, Belleville, entitled “The Old Sun Dial on Parliament Hill,” which appeared in The Weekly Intelligencer, 26 May 1921. Ritchie was a member of the Historic Landmarks Association of Canada which furnished the funds to restore the sundial, which dated to the building of the Rideau Canal in the 1830s.

Rawdon Township : Shamrock Cheese Company, Masonic activities

File contains an Ontario Intelligencer article, 20 July 1963 concerning improvements in plant facilities by the Shamrock Cheese Factory, Stirling, and several newspaper clippings concerning the history of Stirling in the period 1859-1871. Also present is a photocopied typescript extract from Historic Hastings regarding an excursion by residents to Belleville to Stirling to attend a festival by the Stirling Masonic Lodge, 15 June 1877.
