W. C. Mikel records

This collection represents materials originating or used by W.C. Mikel. The first folder contains three speeches delivered during his time as Police Magistrate and Mayor. The next series of folders contains references and sources for his volume The City of Belleville History. The second folder contains correspondence regarding the book. Folders three through ten contain the notes Mikel used for each chapter. Folder eleven contains the plans for “Quinte City" and documents from the Town Planning Institute among others. Folder twelve contains unattributed reference material and general research for the book. Folder thirteen contains Mikel's collection of material for the 1924 United Empire Loyalist celebration which was held during his first term as Mayor. Folder fourteen contains Mrs. Mikel's obituary, a letter from Mikel to the Bank of Montreal, and a letterhead from the period he served as Police Magistrate. Folder fifteen contains three copies of his book, Godlove Mikel. The sixtenth folder contains a variety of newspaper clippings.

The file contains photocopies pertaining to George Moffatt James, founder in 1910 of The James Texts. It contains a list of short stories and sketches, a brief bio and biographical sketch, a poem written by Geo. M. James "Autumn Days", and a short story titled "Theft by Mail"

Edgar Vandewater memoir

The file contains a writing by Edgar S. Vandewater born in Sidney Township 1876, titled "Belleville as I remember it in the 1890's", dated 1953 and published in the Ontario Intelligencer 31 October 1953. There is also a letter from Richard Moran, great-nephew of Edgar with a brief genealogy.

Boyce, Betsy Dewar

The file contains two newspaper obituaries for Betsy Dewar Boyce (born 27 March 1913, died 12 August 2007), copies of the memorial service, a newspaper article titled "Boyce remembered for love of history, volunteerism" and the address given at the Remembrance service on 21 September 2007.

Intelligencer Time Capsule

The file contains a number of newspaper clippings from the 1930s about local residents and buildings. Also contains a piece of writing titled "The History of Friend Andrews told by Alexander Andrews (1959). The item is dated 20 January 1961 and is a genealogy of the Andrews family.

Naylor's Theatre - Deseronto

The file contains a writing titled "The Girl From Kokomo; A Tale of Naylor's Theatre" written by Kenneth M. Brown. It contains several stories about Naylor's Theatre. Names included in the stories are: Lord George Wellesly, Louise Nesta Pamela Fitzgerald, Vernon Castle, Gwen Lazier, among others.
