Historique
George Munk was born in the village of Bridge, Kent, England and spent his childhood in the nearby village of Wingham, where his father was the local butcher. He joined the Royal Flying Corps in 1914 as an aircraft spotter and gunner, initially serving in France and then being transferred to Canada to the training camp at Camp Mohawk. He met his wife, Gertrude, when the squadron was in Fort Worth, Texas, during the winter of 1917-1918.
