Marmora Iron Works : memorial to the Governor-General re: Belleville to Marmora railway

File contains a manuscript original and copy of a memorial submitted by the Hastings County Council to Sir Edmund Walker Head, Governor-General of British North America, ca. 1857 requesting a railroad connection between the Marmora Iron Works and Belleville to facilitate the shipment of ore and provide a stimulus to mining in Hastings County.

File contains a typescript brief biography of Charles Hayes who was an early promoter of iron ore mining and smelting in Blairton, near Marmora, Ontario.

Penal Systems : essay on proposed relocation of Kingston penitentiary to the Marmora Iron Works, 1837

File contains a photocopied, typescript essay entitled “ The Report of the Commissioners on the removal of the Penitentiary from Kingston to the Marmora Iron Works...” by Nancy M. Dushaw, Carleton University, 1972. The undergraduate essay examines a government proposal to relocate the prison to Marmora and the reasons for the rejection of the plan.

iii)-five acres on lot fifteen, fifth concession in the Township of Madoc, purchased by Thomas Comerford from David Pitceathly, Thomas Kelso et al, 11 June 1884;

Gatling Company owned the Gatling and Tuttle shafts at the Delora Mine, which were first opened by the Gatling Gold and Silver Mining company in 1873.
