Plan of the Northern part of the Village of Hastings

A certified reproduction of the "Plan of the Northern part of the Village of Hastings. ” The area contained includes; Village of Hastings [now Madoc] laid out on the West half of Lot # 2 and a part of Lot # 1 in the 6th Concession of Township of Madoc. The area is property of the Estate of the Late Colin Russell of Montreal. Surveyed for Mrs. Sarah Russell of Montreal. Originally surveyed by Samuel M. Benson, P.L.S. and produced in December 1858.

This reproduction was made on June 5, 1972 and approved by the Deputy Registrar.

Tudor Township, 1859 : petition for separation from Madoc

File contains a manuscript signed petition from landholders in the Township of Tudor to the County Council of the County of Hastings seeking administrative separation from the Township of Madoc, whose council had responsibility for Tudor. Also present is a by-law issued by the County of Hastings Council in 1859 enacting the separation of Tudor Township from the Township of Madoc.

Madoc Township : talc mines

File contains a newspaper article on the history and development of talc mining in Madoc Township. Also contains photocopied printed notes from the Hastings County Directory, 1860-61 concerning Madoc Township and its resources with a list of landowners by concession and lot.

Madoc : Hannah family genealogy

File contains a typescript extract from the Hastings County Court Registry Office concerning the ownership of a piece of land in Madoc Township, granted to C. Gordon Hannah in 1861. The lot is not identified, but information from the land index maintained by the Marilyn Adams Genealogical Research Centre suggest that it is lot 24 in the seventh concession of Madoc Township.

A Geological Map of the Madoc Gold Region, 1866. Geological data on map was taken principally from the reports of the Geological Survey of Canada. A certified reproduction of the "Plan & Section of part of [the] south half of Lot # 18, Concession V, Township of Madoc, surveyed for Hugh R. Fletcher & T. D. Ledyard." The plan includes Lots on Richardson Ridge with Wellington Gold Mining Company and Richardson Mine. Surveyed by Murdoch Reid and Unwin, P. L. S. and signed November 1867.
