Albert College Fire 1917

File contains newspaper clipping about the fire at Albert College in 1917. There is also a newspaper clipping about Albert College Professor of Natural History John Macoun, who has had approximately 48 Canadian flora and fauna species named for him.

The Intelligencer : early history

File contains an Ontario Intelligencer article dated 14 June 1924 concerning the establishment and early history of the Weekly Intelligencer [later Ontario Intelligencer]. This issue of the newspaper is available online at https://archive.org/details/intelligencer-june-1924/page/n85/mode/2up . Also present is a typescript genealogy of the family of George Benjamin who started the newspaper in 1834. The genealogy was prepared by Ruby Milburn, granddaughter of George and Isabella Benjamin.

Museum Project, Faulkner House 1967

File contains a mimeographed typescript proposal entitled “Belleville Project for the Canadian Centennial : a proposal submitted by certain interested citizens.” The proposal contains a brief history of Faulkner House [Glanmore], architectural drawings and a proposed budget for restoration and subsequent operations.

Belleville Fire 1879

File contains a c.1850 description of a fireman uniform and of activities of the fire department and men according to Mrs. Moodie, c.1851 petition by the residents of the upper part of town to form a separate fire company, c.1851 petition by G. & J. Brown to try and form a separate fire company, a brief history of the Belleville fire department, a newspaper clip of a fire at a cigar factory in Belleville, and a newspaper clip on the fire that destroyed Mr.Neilson's house.

Belleville Public Library History; Mechanics' Institute

The file contains two papers on the history of the public library in Belleville. The first on titled "From Mechanics' Institute to Corby Public Library; The Development of library service in Belleville, 1851-1908", was prepared by Elizabeth Mitchell, Information Services Librarian, Belleville Public Library (date unknown). The second one titled "The Belleville Public Library; A History of Service" was prepared by Leona Hendry, Chief Librarian and presented March 17, 1992 at the Hastings County Historical Society.
