Trent Canal

File contains several newspaper articles concerning the history of the Trent-Severn Waterway, including pre- and early contact travel by the Haudenosaunee or Iroquois. Also present is an Intelligencer article , 3 January 1962, regarding plans to substantially renovate the lock system on the Trent Canal.

Grand Junction Railway 1852-1913

File contains an original letter dated 1871 on Grand Junction Railway letterhead, two original account collection notices from the 1870's from the Grand Junction Railway, Solicitor's office; one newspaper article dated 29-September-1969 from the Intelligencer titled "Belleville Early Train Centre".

Railway : Belleville-Marmora, 1858-1865

File contains several signed printed petitions to the Warden and Council of the County of Hastings concerning the selection of a route for a railway following the Moira River Valley and passing through or near the Village of Madoc, to Marmora. Includes manuscript resolutions and motions of the Council of the County of Hastings concerning matters relating to the proposed railway route. Also present are three manuscript memorials of the County of Hastings to Sir Edmund Walker Head, Governor General of Canada concerning the need for a railroad to exploit fully the mineral resources in Hastings County.

Railway: Hastings County, 1861

File contains a manuscript resolution of the Council of the County of Hastings, 28 January 1862 resolving that no further aid should be given by the Government of Canada to the Grand Trunk Railway. Also contains a manuscript petition of the Corporation of the County of Hastings following upon the above resolution. Also present is a manuscript letter of 30 October 1861 from John MacKelcan, Hamilton, to the Warden of Hastings County requesting a meeting of municipalities concerning municipal indebtedness relating to railway construction in Canada West, and a letter of response from the Warden, County of Hastings, 4 November 1861, declining the invitation as Hastings County was not in a position of indebtedness due to railway financing.

Rawdon Township : Roads & Bridges Petition, 1871

File contains a manuscript petition to the County Council of Hastings by residents of the Township of Rawdon, dated 1 November 1871 requesting the construction of a road between Rawdon Township and Marmora for the purpose of moving goods to market or mill, and for the repair of a causeway to Seymore which was destroyed by fire in the summer of 1871.

Railway : Prince Edward & North Hastings Railways, Ponton letter

File contains a photocopied newspaper notice of a shareholders meeting of the Belleville and North Hastings Railway Company, 1 October 1878. Also present is manuscript letter from [G. Sergeant] General Manager of the Grand Trunk Railway Company of Canada 29 April 1891 to W.N. Ponton rejecting the extension of a double track at Belleville.

Trenton : Ferry license, 1879; Bay of Quinte Navigation Company

File contains a manuscript license issued by the Province of Ontario on 13 October 1879 approving the operation of a ferry from Sidney Township in Hastings County to Ameliasburgh Township in Prince Edward County. Also present are two printed, completed bills of sale, dated 5 November 1880 transferring 64 shares in the steam paddler, Mary Ethel, built at Trenton, to the Bay of Quinte Navigation Company (Limited).
