Rawdon Township Council, 1957

File contains several newspaper clippings concerning the election of the Rawdon Township Council, and minutes of its meetings, 1957. Also present is a photocopied excerpt of the Hastings County Directory, 1860-1861, and 1864-1865 with statistics for Rawdon Township including names of property owners listing occupations, and location of properties by lot and concession number.

Rawdon Township : Roads & Bridges Petition, 1871

File contains a manuscript petition to the County Council of Hastings by residents of the Township of Rawdon, dated 1 November 1871 requesting the construction of a road between Rawdon Township and Marmora for the purpose of moving goods to market or mill, and for the repair of a causeway to Seymore which was destroyed by fire in the summer of 1871.

Rawdon Township : Shamrock Cheese Company, Masonic activities

File contains an Ontario Intelligencer article, 20 July 1963 concerning improvements in plant facilities by the Shamrock Cheese Factory, Stirling, and several newspaper clippings concerning the history of Stirling in the period 1859-1871. Also present is a photocopied typescript extract from Historic Hastings regarding an excursion by residents to Belleville to Stirling to attend a festival by the Stirling Masonic Lodge, 15 June 1877.

Rawdon : township officers, 1860-1863

File contains two manuscript declarations by Thomas Douglas, Rawdon Township Clerk, dated 19 January 1863, certifying that James Cooke, and Robert Lison were duly elected as Reeve and Deputy-Reeve, respectively, for the Township of Rawdon. Also present is a completed printed affidavit certifying George Conley's election as Reeve of the Township of Rawdon, 16 January 1866. Also includes a manuscript By Law no. 85, issued by the Council of the County of Hastings on 8 September 1860 concerning the disposal of road allowances in the Township of Rawdon.

File contains two letters dated 1958 from Jack Richardson addressed to Mr. Wrightmeyer. The letters reference local buildings in Belleville and Hasting Co. (Pinnacle Hotel, Wallbridge Victoria Foundry, Ponton farmhouse. Letters refer to photos that are no longer in the file but have been removed to Glanmore H.C.H.S. photo collection.

Plumpton, Curator, Hastings County Historical Society giving information for Robert Read, M.P. Senator. Tanner, distiller and farmer in Belleville. Director Grand Junction Railway; elected Legislative Council for Quinte Division. Elected House of Commons for Hastings East. Called to the Senate 1871.

Thomas Ritchie : sun dial, Parliament Hill

File contains a newspaper article by Thomas Ritchie, Belleville, entitled “The Old Sun Dial on Parliament Hill,” which appeared in The Weekly Intelligencer, 26 May 1921. Ritchie was a member of the Historic Landmarks Association of Canada which furnished the funds to restore the sundial, which dated to the building of the Rideau Canal in the 1830s.
