Rawdon Township : diary of W. Hambly, 1793-1794

File contains a reproduction of a manuscript diary of W. Hambly, surveyor, for the period 6 December 1793 to 1 May 1794. The diary entries discuss the survey process in Thurlow, Sidney, Huntingdon and Rawdon Townships. Also present is a typescript transcript of the diary with an appended footnote section which contains a glossary of terms.

Herschel Township : draft history

File contains a typescript copy of notes on the early settlement of Monteagle and Herschel Townships including information on settlement, education, railways and resources. The information was provided by children from Herschel school. Also contains two photocopy pages from the 1889 Monteagle and Herschel Directory listing landowners with surnames A-G.

Mining : Marmora Iron Works, 1823

File contains a typescript brief biography of Charles Hayes who was an early promoter of iron ore mining and smelting in Blairton, near Marmora, Ontario.

Rikley, Andrew Genealogy

File contains a letter dated 22 November 1969 from Brian Roberts, Carnation, Washington to Mrs. M.G. Plumpton, curator Hastings County Museum requesting information on the Rikley family. Included is a copy of a marriage certificate dated 4 April 1826 for Andrew Rikely (widower) son of Andrew to Eliza Arkles, daughter of John Arkles, married St. Thomas' Church, Belleville.

The Intelligencer : early history

File contains an Ontario Intelligencer article dated 14 June 1924 concerning the establishment and early history of the Weekly Intelligencer [later Ontario Intelligencer]. This issue of the newspaper is available online at https://archive.org/details/intelligencer-june-1924/page/n85/mode/2up . Also present is a typescript genealogy of the family of George Benjamin who started the newspaper in 1834. The genealogy was prepared by Ruby Milburn, granddaughter of George and Isabella Benjamin.
