This description is for part of a collection of some 4,400 vertical files of materials gathered by the Hastings County Historical Society. They cover a wide range of subjects and were received from a variety of different sources, not always recorded.

The collection includes original materials, newspaper clippings, secondary histories and copies.

Fidlar, Edward, Rawdon 1834

File contains original manuscript mortgage registration for a mortgage held by William Robertson on a property in Stirling, Rawdon Township, purchased by Edward Fidlar. Also contains a manuscript and printed indenture of bargain and sale between Edward Fidlar and Simon Root for land in the village of Stirling.

Diamond, John Letters 1837 & 1857

File contains two letters: one written to John Diamond of Hayfrom William Jeffers of Hamiltonin 1837 and the other written by A. Diamond to the Warden and Council of Hastings County in Fall 1857, complaining about not being paid as Superintendent of Education for Thurlow.

Schools & teachers, 1837

File contains a photocopy of a printed advertisement for a school teacher in the village of North Port, and the opening of an evening school in Belleville, 1837. Also contains a manuscript by-law to appoint a superintendent of schools for the County of Hastings, 1860.

Frankford Fair 1838-1931

File contains a newspaper clipping announcing the appointment of Sir George Arthur K.C.H. Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada and Major General in 1838; and a newspaper clipping printed in 1931 about the history of the Frankford Fair dating back to 1838.
