This description is for part of a collection of some 4,400 vertical files of materials gathered by the Hastings County Historical Society. They cover a wide range of subjects and were received from a variety of different sources, not always recorded.
The collection includes original materials, newspaper clippings, secondary histories and copies.
File contains a book “The Day of Crysler's Farm” about the battle at Crysler's Farm in 1813 and the development of Crysler Farm Battlefield Park & Upper Canada Village.
File contains teaching aids from the Jackdaw Series, this is No. C3 “Canada Votes 1791-1891” with reproductions of primary resources such as newspaper articles, posters, etc.
File contains miscellaneous documents from Foxboro; including: a price list Mrs. I.B. Gay Dress and Mantle Making, a poster for the production at the Foxboro Methodist Sunday School; om the 1920s, and a newspaper clipping about the Foxboro Hawks baseball team.
File contains a newspaper clipping about a retired provincial police officer retelling the investigation of a double murder in 1925 that occurred in Belleville.
File contains a newspaper clipping about West Coast fireman Duncan Anderson returning to Belleville before a Fireman's Convention in Toronto. He was an air gunner with RCAF and trained at Ontario School for the Deaf, which was taken over by RCAF during the war.
File contains a photocopy typescript of Ontario general election results by political party, for 1967-1990. Also contains a photocopied printed excerpts from the Canadian Parliamentary Guide [formerly Canadian Parliamentary Companion] 1874-1994 including brief biographical sketches of MPPs for Hastings West Riding.
File contains various documents about Education Week in Belleville and recipients of the Sir MacKenzie Bowell Award, including a program for a ceremony, two tickets of admission, and newspaper clippings.
File contains several newspaper clippings concerning the history of the Deloro Smelting and Refining Company and its closure in 1961. Also contains an offprint of an article on metallurgy at Deloro, and an historical analysis of the Deloro site.
File contains copies of Ontario School for the Deaf (in the later years, Sir James Whitney) publication The Canadian from 1970, 1973, 1975, 1986, and 1987
File contains a newspaper clipping about teachers attending a seminar to use newspapers to teach students to be analytical and critical; one seminar attendant was William H. Lesurf of Belleville.
File contains a newspaper article concerning organist S. Alec Gordon who marked 25 years at Bridge Street United Church, Belleville in 1962. Also contains an article on a recital given by Gordon on his 90th birthday in 1971.
File contains a manuscript letter from Mrs. A.E. Hall to the Hastings County Historical Society concerning the Fraser and Eastman families of Madoc ca. 1850-1893.
File contains three booklets published in 1970 celebrating the Centennial anniversary of the opening of the Ontario School of the Deaf in Belleville, and a list from the Outdoor Activities Sub-Committee of their contributions to planning the Centennial year.
File contains a typsecript letter to W. J. Therriault, Governor of the Hastings County Jail from Mary G. Plumpton, Curator, Hastings County Museum, with a list of hangings by date and name of the convicted from 1835 to 1941.
File contains several manuscript pages listing local businesses in Belleville together with other samples of handwriting by J.S. Eccles. Also contains typescript transcript of “When the Campbells came to Roslin,” first published 1928.
