Scrapbook compiled by Alice Deacon of 107 Station Street, Belleville, 1914-1919, including newspaper cuttings about Belleville servicemen, theatre programmes and flyers, postcards. The book used to paste the clippings into was Richardson's New Method for the Piano-Forte. The collection also includes 'The Canadian Forces in the Great War' by Colonel A. Foretescue Duguid, 1947, stamped 'Belleville Poppy Committee' on the front cover, 14pp.

Grand Trunk Railway Regiment, 1867

File contains typescript correspondence from Leslie Whitford to Mrs. J.W. Sargent Secretary, Hastings County Historical Society March 6-March12, 1964 concerning the 1871 annual inspection of the Grand Trunk Railway Brigade in Belleville under the command of Captains Nunn and Crowther. Also contains a photocopied article entitled “The Grand Trunk Railway Brigade” by Barbara Wilson, concerning special militia units composed of employees of the Grand Trunk Railway authorized by Canadian Order in Council in 1867 to act in states of emergency (published in the Canadian Army Journal 17 (2) in 1963).

File contains typescript and manuscript correspondence and completed applications of Belleville men enlisting in the Canadian Regiment for service in the Boer War. Also contains typescript copies of reports on the preparations of the Argyll Light Infantry for departure for South Africa. Also present is a printed poster with photographs of a soldier demonstrating the semaphore alphabet and numerical signs ca. 1900.

File contains typescript correspondence between Lt. Col. W.N. Ponton and the Canadian Department of Militia and Defence concerning requests for accurate lists of casualties among Canadian soldiers serving with the British Expeditionary Force. Includes a letter of complaint dated 13 July 1915 by Lt. Col. Ponton regarding the failure of the department to provide notification of the hospitalization of his son, Capt. H.D. Ponton.
