Schools & teachers, 1837

File contains a photocopy of a printed advertisement for a school teacher in the village of North Port, and the opening of an evening school in Belleville, 1837. Also contains a manuscript by-law to appoint a superintendent of schools for the County of Hastings, 1860.

File contains a typescript transcript of a CBC radio talk by Dr. A. R. Laycock concerning the career of his uncle, W.H. Michin, a pre-Confederation elementary school teacher. Also contains a typescript extract from "The life of W.H. Minchin, 1839-1914."

Education – Albert College 1869

File contains an 1868 draft petition to the Senate of the Dominion of Canada to establish a School of Mines in connection with the Geological Department to educate men gold and silver extraction, chemical and mechanical processes for proper treatment of ores, etc. as more and more valuable minerals are discovered in British Columbia. There is a also an 1869 report regarding the feasibility of establishing a School of Mines and Agricultural Chemistry in connection with Albert College.
