Sir Gilbert Parker collection

The Gilbert Parker fonds consists of three folders. The first contains pieces of correspondence, primarily to Col. W.N. Ponton. Amoung the items he sent to Ponton were two propogandist pamphlets by Reverend H.M. Gwatkin and William Archer respectively. The second folder contains two of his publications, of which the poem "Was it Some Golden Star" was put to music by Edward Elgar, and two publications directed towards the United States with the aim of bringing them into World War I on the British side. The final folder contains items from the Gilbert Parker Banquet in 1902 with items including a menu and an invitation.

The fonds consists of 633 photographs, 23 negatives, letters, sympathy cards, business cards, newspaper clippings, genealogy and family history and a few business papers belonging to the Smith family, primarily Frank Smith of Madoc. The photographs found in this fonds mainly depict the area around Madoc, with some from Bancroft, Maynooth and other places in Hastings County. A large number of the photographs were taken on vacation or while travelling through Canada and the United States. The photographs were taken in Florida, Atlantic City, Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Healy Falls, Shaw Falls, Coppercliffe, Ottawa, Port Carling, Gaspe, Napanee, Madoc, Bancroft, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick. There are 3 letters from Henry and Eliza Smith between 1872 and 1874. A birth certificate for Frank Smith, news clippings on the Smith and McCaw families and events in Madoc. There are family trees and other genealogical information connecting the Smith, McCaw and other families. The families primarily depicted in the photographs are the Smith family, McCaw family, Swayne family and Cassidy family. Many of the photographs have names and places written on the back of them. Hill file of correspondence and newsletters 15 assorted annual reports and financial statements up to 1970, with a fund-raising proposal. minutes from the St. Andrew's Society from February 12, 1885 and a menu from the St. Andrew's Day anniversary from 1890 file of notices, a program from a service dedicated to Queen Victoria's funeral, a list of soldiers from the congregation who fought in World War One, a program from Sunday, December 4, 1932, programs from Stainer's "The Crucifixion" from 1958, 1959, and 1961, the itinerary from the 1959 annual council meeting of the Women's Missionary Society of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, the list to elect the church's elders from 1959, a program from the church choir's production of Handel's Messiah in 1960, a program from the Girl Guide – Brownie Sunday service in 1961, a catalogue of art painted by Allan and Donnah Cameron for an exhibit held in 1964, a program and an advertisement for an organ recital from 1968, there is also a 1968 retelling of a performance by the Ladies of St. Andrews Church from 1889, and finally a copy of Talk 405 given by Gerald Boyce on Anniversary Sunday 2006 file of newspaper clippings
