This collection represents materials originating or used by W.C. Mikel. The first folder contains three speeches delivered during his time as Police Magistrate and Mayor. The next series of folders contains references and sources for his volume The City of Belleville History. The second folder contains correspondence regarding the book. Folders three through ten contain the notes Mikel used for each chapter. Folder eleven contains the plans for “Quinte City" and documents from the Town Planning Institute among others. Folder twelve contains unattributed reference material and general research for the book. Folder thirteen contains Mikel's collection of material for the 1924 United Empire Loyalist celebration which was held during his first term as Mayor. Folder fourteen contains Mrs. Mikel's obituary, a letter from Mikel to the Bank of Montreal, and a letterhead from the period he served as Police Magistrate. Folder fifteen contains three copies of his book, Godlove Mikel. The sixtenth folder contains a variety of newspaper clippings.

Whiteman, James 1837 : affidavit of activities

File contains two copies of a reproduction of an affidavit by James Whiteman regarding his service as a volunteer in the militia during 1837-8. He volunteered in Shannonville, attempted to search for Hayden, arrested Joseph Canniff, and marched as far as Napanee on his way to Prescott before being discharged. He was 76 when he made the declaration. The original document was owned by Clarence Whiteman of Albert Street inn Belleville, James' great nephew.

W.W. I : military letters 1915 re: lack of contact, missing men

File contains typescript correspondence between Lt. Col. W.N. Ponton and the Canadian Department of Militia and Defence concerning requests for accurate lists of casualties among Canadian soldiers serving with the British Expeditionary Force. Includes a letter of complaint dated 13 July 1915 by Lt. Col. Ponton regarding the failure of the department to provide notification of the hospitalization of his son, Capt. H.D. Ponton.

File contains a printed menu for the 3rd Ypres Anniversary dinner of the Officers' Association of the 2nd Battalion, 1st Canadian Expeditionary Force, 20 April 1918. Includes a newspaper article concerning the event. Also present is a printed ticket of admission to the 2nd Battalion Reunion Dinner, 31 August 1935.

File contains a typescript copy of a letter from Lt. Col. W.N. Ponton to Hon. Sam Hughes, Minister of Militia and Defence, 17 June 1915 concerning a presentation of regimental colours by the 39th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force. Also contains a letter from Lt. Col W.N. Ponton, 10 June 1915 to the Commanding Officer, 6th Battalion, 2nd Brigade, Canadian Artillery, British Expeditionary Force seeking information on the status of Driver Rufus Gulliver.
