Champlain Map of 1616

The original map is a tracing of the printed map by Samuel de Champlain from "Les Voyages" in 1613. In the 1616 map, more additions were made to the north and south due to increased colonization. It shows Lake Ontario, here called Lac St. Louis today is known as Georgian Bay, Lake Huron and the Great Lakes.

The map was purchased by John Carter Brown Library, July 1953. The library had received it from Arthur Rau, an antique bookseller in Paris. Reproduced by the Meriden Gravure Society in 1956.

1885 Northwest Rebellion Campaign: list of “A” & “H” Company Belleville Veterans

File contains a photocopied typescript letter from Chas. S. Clapp to Lt. Col. William Nisbet Ponton dated October 29, 1914 concerning the A. and H Companies of the Midland Battalion at Batoche during the Northwest Rebellion of 1885. Also present is a photocopied typescript list of veterans from the two companies who served during the Rebellion.

Stamps : Canadian stamps from reign of Queen Victoria

File contains eight original uncancelled stamps in one-half to five cent denominations which commemorate the Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897, and two half-cent Canadian stamps from 1870 bearing the image of Queen Victoria. Also present is a Globe and Mail newspaper article, 7 February 1970, discussing the value of a rare 12-penny Canadian stamp, and an Intelligencer article, ca. 1969 regarding the annual Quinte Philatelic Exhibition of the Quinte Stamp Club.
