Boer War Medal : presented to Major Franklin Lynn, 1901

File contains a newspaper article of March 31, 1960 concerning the presentation of a medal to the Hastings County Historical Society on behalf of Major G. Franklin Lynn, former Belleville resident, who served in the Canadian Contingent in the South African [Boer] War. The medal, of which Major Lynn was one of the recipients, was originally presented to Belleville members of the Contingent by the Belleville City Council in 1901.

Scrapbook compiled by Alice Deacon of 107 Station Street, Belleville, 1914-1919, including newspaper cuttings about Belleville servicemen, theatre programmes and flyers, postcards. The book used to paste the clippings into was Richardson's New Method for the Piano-Forte. The collection also includes 'The Canadian Forces in the Great War' by Colonel A. Foretescue Duguid, 1947, stamped 'Belleville Poppy Committee' on the front cover, 14pp.

The Union Jack [poem]

Printed illustrated card with poem entitled 'The Union Jack'. The card was produced as a souvenir of the raising of the British flag on No. 3 School House, Octavia Street, Belleville on Tuesday 24 May 1892, Queen Victoria's 73rd birthday. "With Compliments of the 'Old Belleville Rifle Co.' (No. 1 Co., 49th Battalion, Hastings Rifles."

Grand Trunk Railway Regiment, 1867

File contains typescript correspondence from Leslie Whitford to Mrs. J.W. Sargent Secretary, Hastings County Historical Society March 6-March12, 1964 concerning the 1871 annual inspection of the Grand Trunk Railway Brigade in Belleville under the command of Captains Nunn and Crowther. Also contains a photocopied article entitled “The Grand Trunk Railway Brigade” by Barbara Wilson, concerning special militia units composed of employees of the Grand Trunk Railway authorized by Canadian Order in Council in 1867 to act in states of emergency (published in the Canadian Army Journal 17 (2) in 1963).
