Harrison, Hannah Mary

Hannah Harrison was born in Belleville, Ontario, on July 5th, 1890, the youngest of nine children. Her parents were David Harrison, a blacksmith for the Grand Trunk Railway, and Elizabeth. Hannah worked as a milliner for many years in the Campbell hat shop in Belleville. She died on January 10th, 1989 and was buried in the Belleville Cemetery.

Elmore, Publius Virgillius, D.P.S.

Publius Virgillius Elmore was born in the United States of America in 1789. When he moved to Belleville, he worked as a Deputy Surveyor to chart Hastings County as it became incorporated. He had a significant role in forming Hastings, as demonstrated when he started surveying and constructing roads in Lake Township in North Hastings. In an 1829 petition, he signed for Prince Edward County (where he resided) to become a district. In the 1830s, P.L.S. John Emerson was articled to Elmore'. Elmore married a local woman in Shannonville, Ontario - but was widowed prior to 1853. He died in 1857 and was buried in Belleville.

Barrett, Augustus

Augustus Barrett was a photographer whose career lasted from 1865 to 1902. He was born in Poland and came to North America in 1853. He worked in Oshawa, Whitby, Cannington and finally in Toronto, at 324 Yonge Street. He married Sarah Edwards on 11 January 1866 and she became his successor in the business.

Wollaston Township became part of Hastings County in 1858. It was originally combined with Tudor, Cashel and Limerick Townships, but became a separate municipality in 1880. In 2019 it had a population of around 700 people.

Harry Sheridan Palmer was the child of Charles Sheridan Palmer and Corilla Louisa (Jines). He was born in Ameliasburgh, Prince Edward County, Ontario, on 22 July 1891. In 1908 he won the Trenton to Belleville road race. He married Minnie Elizabeth Simpson on 22 January 1913 in Trenton, Ontario and was working as a painter at the time of the 1921 census. He died in 1976 and was buried in Whitby, Ontario.

Jack McGeachie was a resident of Limerick Township in Hastings County, and with his wife, Ethel Tweedie Morgan, was the donor of the McGeachie Conservation Area to the Crowe Valley Conservation Authority in 1994.
