The Township of Stirling-Rawdon was formed in 1998 as an amalgamation of the municipal administrations of the Village of Stirling and the Township of Rawdon in Hastings County, Ontario.
The Township of Stirling-Rawdon was formed in 1998 as an amalgamation of the municipal administrations of the Village of Stirling and the Township of Rawdon in Hastings County, Ontario.
The Township of Rawdon in Hastings County, Ontario, was incorporated in 1850. The village of Stirling was separated from the township in 1858 to become its own municipality. In 1998 the two amalgamated again to form the Township of Stirling-Rawdon.
The Township of Marmora was attached to the County of Hastings by an act of the provincial Parliament of Upper Canada passed on 14 April 1821. The townships of Lake and Marmora were combined in a by-law passed by the County of Hastings on 11 June 1852. The township amalgamated with the Village of Deloro in 1998 and with the Village of Marmora in 2001.
Limerick Township was designated as part of Hastings County in Ontario in 1858. It was part of a united municipality with Tudor and Wollaston Townships in 1863, joined by Cashel Township in December 1869. Wollaston became a separate township in 1880 and Limerick became an independent township from 1887.
Huntingdon Township Council was established in 1850. In 1998 it merged with the Village of Madoc to form the Municipality of Centre Hastings.
Deseronto, Ontario was incorporated as a town in 1889. The settlement had become a village in 1871, known as Mill Point. It was given the name Deseronto in 1881, after Captain John Deserontyon, the leader of the 20 families who settled in the area as the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte in 1784.
