A meeting was held at Shire Hall in Belleville on 16 July 1908 for the purpose of organizing a Lawn Bowling Club. In August 1908 The Daily Intelligencer reported that the club met on "Mr. E. G. [Ephraim George] Sills' lawn." In 1909 John Taylor sold the club lots 1 and 2 on the west side of William Street, Belleville, where it remained until moving to Yeomans Street in 1932. In 2020 it moved to 69 Centre Street, part of the Hillcrest Park development.

Julien Donald Bissonnette was born on 1 July 1857. He was baptized at St. Peter in Chains Roman Catholic Church in Trenton, Ontario, on 13 October 1857, the child of Julien Bissonnette and his wife, Mary Donald. Julien studied at Queen's University in Kingston, obtaining his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1880. He taught at Dundas High School from 1880 to 1889, before returning to Queen's to qualify as a Doctor of Medicine in 1892. He worked as a doctor in Napanee and then for more than 20 years in Stirling, Ontario, where he died on 31 December 1921.
