Ashley, James Bell

James Bell Ashley was born in Prince Edward County, Ontario, the son of Augustus Ashley and Christina (Kerr). He married Catherine Sproule in 1863 and Hattie Murdoff in 1877. He was originally a teacher, but lost his hearing as a result of contracting scarlet fever and worked as a journalist until securing a teaching position at the Ontario School for the Deaf in around 1884. He died in 1894.

Stanley Lufkin Watkins was born in London, England on February 16th, 1917. He worked as an electrical engineer, coming to Canada in 1953. He worked in Montreal and Winnipeg and moved to Belleville, Ontario in 1959 to work for Northern Electric. The Watkins family built a house on Maitland Drive in Belleville. They lived in Belleville until June 1964 when they moved to Montreal. Stanley joined L.M. Ericsson in 1965 and in 1975 he formed his own company, Watkins & Associates, doing consultancy work and system sales. In 1982 he retired, living in Spain for three years and returning to Canada to settle in Toronto, spending winters in Florida. He died on May 8th, 2002.

John McKeown was born in Ontario on April 24th, 1839, the son of Samuel McKeown and Margaret McGowan, settlers from Ireland. He operated a boot and shoe store in Belleville, Ontario until 1919 when he sold the business to the Leslie family. He died in Belleville on July 7th, 1930.

Mary Benson was born in Picton, Ontario, on 30 September 1864. She married George Boyle, a grocer, on 26 April 1893 and the couple lived in Belleville, Ontario at 226 William Street. George died on 20 June 1923. Mary died on 1 April 1954 and they were both buried in the Belleville Cemetery.
