Haig, Eliza Irene

Eliza Irene Haig was born on September 7, 1908 in Morrisburg, the daughter of Charles Seymour and Ella Hummell. She was raised in Morrisburg and Brockville, and later graduated from Queen's University. She married John McLean Haig. She was known as Harriet Stevens to CJBQ listeners and Intelligencer readers. Mrs. Haig spent several years in the children's branch of the Belleville Public Library. She was a member of the University Women's Club and the Business and Professional Women's Club, representing the Canadian Federation of Business and Professional Women in 19159 at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. She was a founding member of the Hastings County Historical Society and a member of the Bridge Street United Church Choir. She died on April 15, 2003.

Wright, Harold Alfred

Harold Alfred Wright was born on May 6, 1908 in Tyendinaga, the son of James Alfred Wright and Clara Amelia Parks. He was married to Cynthia Cunningham who predeceased him. Mr. Wright was educated in Belleville and became a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of Bridge Street United Church. Mr. Wright died on June 29, 1997. Officers and Members of both Moira Masonic Lodge #11 and O.E.S. Belleville Lodge #55 held memorial services for Mr. Wright.

Wessman, Olive Elsie

Olive Elsie Wessman (Trueman) was born on November 14, 1893 in Toronto, the daughter of William Henry Trueman and Margaret Ann Swinarton. She married Sigurd Wessman and they lived for most of their married lives in Belleville and Deseronto. Her husband was a factory owner, producing electric appliances. Olive Elsie Wessman died on April 25, 1987 in her 94th year. Her husband predeceased her in 1982.

Wessman, Sigurd

Sigurd Wessman was born in Norway in 1885, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Wessman. He married Olive Elsie Trueman, and they came to Hastings County in 1921 from Renfrew. He and his brother ran the Belleville Electric and Stamping Co., initially making tools and dyes. In 1932 they moved to Deseronto where the business was called Redi Heat Electric Appliance Co., running to 1964. Mr. Wessman was on the Deseronto town council for two years and served as mayor for five years. During the Second World War the factory produced gear shifts, ammunition boxes and flame throwers. He and his wife moved back to Belleville in 1962. He died on July 12, 1982 in his 97th year.

Boldrick, William

William Boldrick was born in 1886 at Concession 7, Tyendinaga Township, the son of George Boldrick and Margaret Millan. He married Alma Sarah Johnston on August 29, 1912 in Belleville, Hastings County. He was self-employed as a farmer and a carpenter, working until the early 1970s. He was employed by the Tyendinaga School Board and was a member of Roslin United Church, where he was an elder. He died on June 3, 1976.

Mountney, William Charles Alexander

William Charles Alexander Mountney was born on March 4, 1904 in Musclow, Monteagle Township, the son of Cornelius E. Mountney and Christina A. Lake. He married Elizabeth Bradford. As a carpenter, he began by building barns and from that went on to building and renovating houses. Initially, he worked for Ed Rutherford and then for William Belch. He died in Belleville on December 15, 1997.

Thompson, Newton

Newton Thompson was born in Deseronto, Ontario, the son of James Herbert Thompson and Eliza (née Foote). He married Frances (Fanny) Strong on 22nd May 1917 in Belleville. Thompson worked for CN Rail as a clerk, serving as their chief clerk in Belleville for 20 years. He was a Mason and active in the work of Belleville Red Cross and the YMCA. He retired from CN in 1957 and died in Belleville on 17th June 1973.
