Riggs, Lester David

Lester David Riggs was born in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, in 1880, and died in Fort Lyon Colorado in 1963. He married Bertha L. VanKirk (née Culver) in 1912. She died at Fort Thompson, South Dakota, on April 3rd, 1940, after having succumbed to cancer.
Riggs's parents were William Bates Riggs and Mary Priscilla Riggs (nee Nelson). He had three siblings: Leo Bates Riggs, Wanda E. Riggs, and Vera Lewis (nee Riggs). His father, William Bates Riggs, was originally from Pennsylvania, however in 1881, had moved to Belleville, Ontario.
For part of his medical career, Dr. Lester David Riggs was a doctor for natives at the Tapwai Sanitarium, Federal Public Health Service at the Naval Sanitarium in Las Animas Colorado, in Valentine Colorado.

Quinte Field Naturalists

The Quinte Field Naturalists Club was founded on January 16, 1952. A local committee of the Ontario Field Naturalists from the Entomology Laboratory at Bleecker and Dundas Streets in Belleville met with the Belleville Brown Thrasher Nature Club to form the Quinte Field Naturalists Club. An executive was chosen and the public invited to join the club through an article in the local newspaper. Meetings were held the first Monday of each month, usually at the Entomology Laboratory.
The Quinte Field Naturalists of Belleville were incorporated on January 2, 1991 according to information found within the fonds. The Quinte Field Naturalists is one of many member organizations belonging to Ontario Nature (formerly known as the Federation of Ontario Naturalists) headquartered in Toronto, Ontario.

Irvine Diamond was born in Lennox and Addington County, Ontario, in 1830. He worked as a teacher in Prince Edward County and later as an insurance agent in Belleville. He was elected as an Alderman to the first City Council of Belleville in 1878. He died on 24 September 1911.
