Morton, Gerald Alexander

Gerald Alexander Morton was born in Tweed, Ontario on 11 August 1898. He trained as a dentist but left the profession due to eye problems in 1929, when he joined his father's newspaper business. He became managing editor and, later, publisher of The Ontario Intelligener (called The Intelligencer from 1965). He died in Guelph on 13 May 1981.

Morton, William Herbert

William Herbert Morton was born in Moira, Ontario, in 1869, the child of Alexander Morton and Mary (Sayers). He married Margaret Herity in 1893. William Morton worked in the cheese industry and in 1910 he and his brother-in-law, Owen Herity, bought the Daily Ontario and Weekly Chronicle newspapers from Thomas S. Carman. They took over the management of the newspaper on 15 April 1910. Herity sold his share to Morton in 1921 and in 1929 Morton bought The Intelligencer from the Bowell family. In April 1930 the two publications were combined into The Ontario Intelligencer. Morton died at the Belleville General Hospital on 16 May 1962.

Mott, Charles Allan

Charles Mott was born on November 2, 1897. In the First World War he served as a gunner with the CEF, starting May 7, 1918. He was on his way to Siberia when the armistice was signed and was demobilized on April 24, 1919.

He served as City Engineer for the City of Belleville from 1929-1958. He then became the city planning engineer from 1958-1961. In his final years with the city he served as planning director and technical assistant with the Belleville & Suburban Planning Board before his retirement in 1960. He spent a total of 45 years with the City of Belleville.
He married his wife Carmileta Florence Mastin on April 30, 1923. He died at the age of 71 years on May 17, 1969.

Mott, Harold Frederick

Harold Frederick Mott was born on August 21, 1910 in Sidney, Hastings County. He was the son of James Percevill Mott and Emily Maud Latta. He married Mary Bellyou on July 30, 1938. Mr. Mott spent forty-one years in the teaching profession, including thirty years at Belleville Collegiate Institute. He began teaching at Moira Continuation School and later taught for four years at Queen Alexandra Public School. He was active in the administration of Bridge Street United Church and the Belleville Rotary Club and was a member of the Quinte Country Club and the Temple and Belleville Masonic Lodge. He died on July 29, 1975.

Mountney, William Charles Alexander

William Charles Alexander Mountney was born on March 4, 1904 in Musclow, Monteagle Township, the son of Cornelius E. Mountney and Christina A. Lake. He married Elizabeth Bradford. As a carpenter, he began by building barns and from that went on to building and renovating houses. Initially, he worked for Ed Rutherford and then for William Belch. He died in Belleville on December 15, 1997.
