Philip Herbert Etter was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on July 14th, 1924, and later settled in Belleville, Ontario. As a young man he worked in the offices of steamship agents, Pickford and Black. During World War Two he served with the Royal Canadian Merchant Navy. He joined the crew of Her Majesty's Number One Canadian hospital ship, Lady Nelson, a hospital ship, on April 21, 1943 as a Junior Purser and made several Atlantic crossings totalling 160,000 sea miles. They would travel over to the Mediterranean, pick up troops from the battlefields, transport them to England and then take convalescents to Halifax or Montreal. He wrote an account of his time at sea. After the war, Philip worked hard to help get recognition for the veterans who had served in the Canadian Merchant Navy and enable them to be eligible for the same benefits as the Navy veterans. He was the eastern region director of the Canadian Merchant Navy Veterans Association and its representative on the National Council of Veterans Associations in Canada. He died at the Belleville General Hospital on August 6th, 2016.

Charles Andrew Tupper was born in Owen Sound, Ontario, in 1914. He lived in Foxboro, Hastings County and worked for Canadian National Railways, writing poems in his spare time. He died on December 20th, 1990 and was buried in the Black River Bridge Memorial Cemetery, South Marysburgh, Prince Edward County.

Lillian Emily Kent was born in Simcoe County, Ontario, on 5 August 1907, the daughter of Horace Kent and Emily Pugh. She married Cecil Henry Davis, a Canadian National Railways employee in Belleville and the couple had three sons. They lived at 143 Lingham Street, Belleville. Cecil died in 1975 and Lillian died on 8 January 2005.

Mary Benson was born in Picton, Ontario, on 30 September 1864. She married George Boyle, a grocer, on 26 April 1893 and the couple lived in Belleville, Ontario at 226 William Street. George died on 20 June 1923. Mary died on 1 April 1954 and they were both buried in the Belleville Cemetery.

Stanley Lufkin Watkins was born in London, England on February 16th, 1917. He worked as an electrical engineer, coming to Canada in 1953. He worked in Montreal and Winnipeg and moved to Belleville, Ontario in 1959 to work for Northern Electric. The Watkins family built a house on Maitland Drive in Belleville. They lived in Belleville until June 1964 when they moved to Montreal. Stanley joined L.M. Ericsson in 1965 and in 1975 he formed his own company, Watkins & Associates, doing consultancy work and system sales. In 1982 he retired, living in Spain for three years and returning to Canada to settle in Toronto, spending winters in Florida. He died on May 8th, 2002.

John McKeown was born in Ontario on April 24th, 1839, the son of Samuel McKeown and Margaret McGowan, settlers from Ireland. He operated a boot and shoe store in Belleville, Ontario until 1919 when he sold the business to the Leslie family. He died in Belleville on July 7th, 1930.

The Fidlars and Parkers are descended from Magnus Fidlar and Janet Irvine of Stromness, Orkney, Scotland. Their son Edward settled in Stirling and was later joined by other family members. Sarah Fidlar married Francis Boreland Parker, son of Robert Parker, originally of Ayr, Scotland, who came to Canada in 1821 to operate the Marmora iron works.
